Club members donated a trunkload of toys and gifts for the holiday season, which were delivered to Hope Womens Center in Apache Junction by members John and Cathy Bishop. Hope Womens Center provides support, classes, mentorship and material items to help women and teen girls who are experiencing a difficult life situation.

Club members will participate in the Salvation Army's Annual Holiday Red Kettle program again this year. Volunteers will be found at the Gold Canyon Bashas' grocery story entrance for several volunteer shifts. Be sure to drop by and do what you can to help donate to the Red Kettle program. Ed Shockley recently delivered gas cards and hygiene products to 'New Leaf/CAAFA' on behalf of Superstition Mountain Rotary.
CAAFA staff member, Marie, accepted the items for the organization. 'CAAFA' needs ongoing donations of product and financial support so they can continue providing for those in need.
Founded in 1998, 'Community Alliance Against Family Abuse' (CAAFA) is the first and only non-profit service provider in Northern Pinal County that provides dedicated support for sexual and domestic abuse victims. The organization focuses on empowering individuals and families in the community to be free from abuse. Apache Junction community members founded CAAFA when they learned local victims of domestic violence and their children were living in their cars and out in the desert. Seeing that the survivors had nowhere else to go, they created the shelter, along with support services that help 470+ survivors annually. Survivors can find help with emergency shelter, support groups, legal advocacy, case management, sexual assault victim advocacy, food boxes, community outreach services, and more.
In 2021, 'CAAFA' merged with the non-profit, 'A New Leaf'. Since 1971, the organization, 'A New Leaf' has assisted those most in need in our community - helping families, children, and adults overcome their various challenges. Our Casino Night 2025 fundraiser was a great success! The club teamed up with the Superstition Community Food Bank for the event to raise funds to benefit Apache Junction youth activities and the student backpack food program.
The Superstition Mountain Rotary Club's December 17th meeting was a Club Assembly, which provided members the opportunity to discuss future events, programs, and projects for the coming year.

Our speaker was attorney Mike Sheridan. Mike talked about learning from his mother the importance of having purpose in our lives. Mike survived a devastating leg injury at the age of four and went on to serve in the armed forces and in law enforcement before going on to graduate in the top ten in his law school class and becoming a successful attorney. Mike has a strong passion for motivating young people. His first book will be published in 2026.
Our speaker was Tony Cerato, a member of the Phoenix 100 Rotary Club. Tony has been a Rotarian for more than 30 years and is retired from a company he owned that was in International trade. Tony spoke about Rotary Peace Fellowships. He has been involved with the Rotary Peace Fellowship program for many years. Ten people are selected to attend each of five selected universities for a total of 50 fellowships awarded.
Our speaker for the November 19th meeting was Lance Uehling, the wrestling coach at Imagine Prep. He shared information about the school's wrestling program and how it plays an important role in helping make a positive difference in kids' lives. He also shared stories about how similar programs helped make a difference in his life in his own early years. He shared how these sorts of programs also helped him when he was a Marine.

Our speaker was Club member Bill Pettus. Bill spoke about many of the amazing veterans he met in the school system where he worked, over the years, as well as elsewhere. All these veterans have contributed so much to our country. Many became teachers after their service, and continued to be of service as educators.
Also speaking to the Club was Linda Rinzel, Manager of Apache Junction Hope Womens's Center. She spoke about a program being put together to assist women, kids and teens. She shared information about a Christmas Boutique being put together by Hope Womens Center for December 16-17.
